It's much more than that if you check out the plug in's website. Someone ran the plugin on the same images used in the photoshop videos and gained similar results :

It's definitely not as good as CS5's implementation, but it has been around for a while & free.

Not sure what you expected to be able to do with that image. The plugin needs something to work with.It is not going to be able to restore the missing part of his face.

Here is a realistic type of thing you can do with it.My first go around with the plugin:

No those are zooms of the logo I removed. Thats what I ran the plugin on. It's impressive considering I did it a full res. Check out the flickr to see the zoomed in portion at full res.

Ooooooh I see...my eye was drawn to the big blurry square and away from the fact that there was a logo on his shirt

I recently went through my wallpaper collection and used the plugin to remove some nasty ugly website logos and watermarks. It does a fantastic job on that kind of stuff.

I am sorry but you can clearly see that Photoshop does a much better job.

Resynth smudges pixels anyway it feels like is a close match to the surroundings. Photoshop is aware of the structure of the surrounding and tries to extrapolate that into the regenerated zone.

    What are you sorry for?

New technology for yet to be released products should be better than things that are a few years old, correct? For the logo removal in my example and a few other tests I've ran it's just fine. Obviously I can't compare with CS5 because I can't and won't own it any time soon.

    Thankyou,thankyou...I'm here all week

I have a ton of photos I need to do that to.

Anyways...with a little patience and retouching it does an admiral job for an "old" free piece of software.

Sorry that your previous statement about resynth being much more and gaining similar results is wrong. You can see the difference, even though it's a low-res movie.

    Here is a funny comparison.

You can see the Resynth version has continuity broken in several parts that are kept in Photoshop. For example hair streaks on the left.

I really want a Resynth 2.0 that steals back from Photoshop. Because I think Photoshop took Resynth, or the paper that came with it, and improved on it.

    1: Original
    2: Resynth
    3: Photoshop

It works better against patterns. It would be nice to see a 2.0.
