Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

Also, for more info, and for my own knowledge, I'm not sure as to whether or not Airprime or the USBSerial drivers is running. It looks like Airprime is not running, even though I modprobe'd it.

I believe the below information is what is required from the dmesg command.

    Code:
[ 36.001237] /build/buildd/linux-2.6.24/drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port)
    [ 36.001270] option 2-5:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
    [ 36.001429] usb 2-5: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    [ 36.001443] option 2-5:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
    [ 36.001526] usb 2-5: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
[ 36.001537] usbcore: registered new interface driver option
    [ 36.001539] /build/buildd/linux-2.6.24/drivers/usb/serial/option.c: USB Driver for GSM modems: v0.7.1
The error I receive upon wvdial terminating is below.
    Code:
    > The PPP daemon has died: Lack of LCP echo responses (exit code = 15)
Now I consider myself very inexperienced to linux, but might this be caused by Airprime and USBSerial running side by side?

How do I know what driver is running?

The instructions for the first method using Airprime driver worked flawlessly with a Verizon UM175 USB modem on Ubuntu 8.04. Many thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

Well I have the Novatel USB760 from verizon and it seems neither of the methods here will work. When I insert the device it is recognized as a USB storage device and mounted as a cdrom. This is because the device has internal storage (where the windows verizon programs are stored) and it also has a micro sd card slot.

When I look through dmesg output there is no mention of "airprime" or of a GSM Modem or serial.

    Any thoughts?

Hey, I nearly figured out how to do it on myself using this thread.

    But your post definitely helped.

I believe that you have to patch the kernel with the Airprime driver. The following link details how one would go about doing so.

I haven't tried it yet, but I believe all should work as written.

Other posts say that "It just works." with the dialer like that. I am blacklisting like first suggested. Any suggestions?
I'm also looking for help with the Alltel AX8600 and Network Manager on Intrepid. Ubuntu detects the USB connection to the phone and creates a /dev/ttyACM0 device, but Network Manager does nothing when I try to connect with the AX8600. No error message, no timeout, nothing. Is there a log for Network Manager or a way to run it from the terminal to get more information?

Edit: In a record time of 45 minutes I have solved this problem. First of all, Network Manager log data is stored in /var/log/syslog. I found some "pin code" errors in there. Turns out my AX8600's security lock had been enabled. I went into the security section of the settings menu on the phone and entered the default unlock code which was the last 4 digits of my phone number. I then plugged the now-unlocked phone back into the USB port and Network Manager automatically created a new profile which fired up in seconds. Sweet!

Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

    Hello all!
Please be patient. I am a complete nube (to Linux and ubuntu) and am trying to set up the EVDO modem in 8.10.
I have edited the wvdial.conf file as suggested, but keep getting this message in the gnome pppd log:
    "unable to run /usr/sbin/pppd
check permissions , or specify a "PPPD path" option in wvdial.conf"
Then, after a while, I get:
    "NO CARRIER
    Max attempts Exceeded Aborting
    Disconnect at (date and time)"

I think I am getting the hang of some things but others escape me.
    Thanks in advance.
    WK
