Re: [SOLVED] How To set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone ( CDMA modem ) Updated

Thank you this worked wonders. I have a slightly unique set up that this worked with using only minor tweeking so I figured I should post it.
I'm using a Huawei EC360 data card laptop modem in a desktop computer through a PCI to PCMCIA Controller Card (yes they exist).
In order to get it to work with your instructions I just had to leave out the part about blacklisting airprime and then it worked beautifully.
I would have never been able to get this working without you, thanks again, you easily saved me $80 with thes instructions.

P.s. my service provider is alltel.

Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

Folks this post is absolutely awesome and works as advertised. I am on an Acer Aspire 3690-???? running 8.04. I have a UM150 USB Modem that I use with Verizon. I was extremely worried about being able to carry it over to my Linux Machine. Is there a GUI application for wvdial? Thanks again for the wonderful How-to!

Re: HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

I have recently upgraded to ubuntu hard from dapper. While in dapper my evdo modem was working just fine, but there was a problem with Hardy. So I followed the spteps outlined in this thread, but then they messed up with the graphics. Apparently by enabling /dev/bus/usb it disbales other drivers. (it could be my laptop that is causing this). What ever the problem was, after I commented out the lines in /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh, my graphics were back to normal. (Oh did I mention that the steps here did not solve my internet problem). So now I am back to square one.

Any ideas. By the way where does one report their modem if it works with Linux. I use a ZTE MY39 evdo modem. Thanks in advance.

I can already tell that Linux is gonna be quite a task to tackle!
I'm using a Verizon 5740 EVDO and i got it running using Airprime, but initially when i started the connection the terminal would repeatedly lose the carrier. It worked after I turned off the carrier check and LCP echos, and my laptop has working internet now! Thanks a lot.

Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

Hey guys, running Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04.1 (newest ISO I could find). I tried using the airprime driver with my PC5750(verizon) and it would hard lock my laptop, Dell D531.

I was on Kubuntu 7.10 and used the USB way before. Had to use it again with 8.04 but worked great! The only problem I ran into, was trying to connect when my Wireless/Bluetooth was on. Had to turn it off before it wanted to connect.

Thanks for the how to guys! I LOVE the ubuntu community!

Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

For anyone with a usb727, I followed the steps here and the modem would disconnect after about 3 seconds with authorization errors.

Finally, I logged into Windows, used VZAccess and connected the modem. I then disconnected in Windows and booted into Ubuntu. When I tried wvdial at that point, the modem connected and stayed connected. I could open Firefox and surf the web.

    Hope this helps.

So as you can see, I'm having issues with my phone being detected. The sync module I've blacklisted (rndis_host) since that's all that would be detected previously. It adds an additional entry to my network manager (as eth2) however it's really being a hassle.

Any suggestions on what to do? I can't even get it to work with bluetooth.

    edit:
This is what happens when I modprobe rndis_host ->

Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

I was wrong. This process works perfectly. I went back to my drawing board to see what I had done wrong and found out. I had not included usb after /proc/bus/, and that over rided other drivers. But now I am ok, my modem is working perfectly. Thank you all. Thank you very much. I bet my ISP never thought their modem would work under LINUX.

    This is great.
