[ubuntu] Re: Changing the gdm theme? (9.10)

Yeah, I tried several different distros before Ubuntu. The community and ease of operation is what sold me. I wanted to do as little command line and text file editing as possible :)

[ubuntu] Re: Changing the gdm theme? (9.10)

There's always Kubuntu I guess. I may switch to KDE myself on the next upgrade.
  3. Re: Cloud computing; is it bad news, and do you trust your data with strangers?

So it seems different people think of cloud computing different ways. I know there have always been pc/server relationships, but when I hear the term "cloud computing", this is what I think of:

I guess it does look a little out of place, never really thought about it before :)
  5. Re: Cloud computing; is it bad news, and do you trust your data with strangers?

True. My bank had to send me new credit and debit cards last year because somebody hacked the system and got the visa numbers of quite a few customers.

[ubuntu] Re: Changing the gdm theme? (9.10)

I think the point he's trying to make in a roundabout way, is that one of the many attractive things about Ubuntu/Gnome/open-source is that it offers a level of customization that Windows lacks....

[ubuntu] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer wrong?

No, but I have noticed something funny in the preferences of analyzer. The list of devices to include in the scan has two entries: /dev/sda1 and gvfs-fuse-daemon. Both have a total capacity of...

[ubuntu] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer wrong?

I have a laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 with a 10GB hdd (at least that's what was advertised when I bought it back in 2001). According to the converter posted above, 10GB = 9.31 GiB, but the Disk Usage...
  11. Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

Well, I spoke too soon. The changes I made earlier didn't stay after a complete shutdown/restart (I had only rebooted before and they had stayed put then). I checked the network interfaces file and...
  12. Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

I'm not sure what the problem is. Somehow my computer was looking for a connection through my ethernet card instead of my um150. I've kept messing with it and everything seems to be working for now...
  13. Re: [SOLVED] HowTo set up EVDO card or usb enabled phone(CDMA)

I was able to get my alltel um150 to work with this thread for the most part. I can get online to surf the web with firefox, but I have to uncheck the work offline button every time. I also can't...
