Maybe I'm thinking too simple here, but have you tried choosing your account by simply pressing enter (and if it's the wrong account using the cursor-keys)?

Is this still valid for 10.10?

I think there were major changes with respect to Xorg and I'm afraid to break my productive machine by trying the solution.

I had problems installing the Zotero-Plugin from here, so I followed their linux guide here (scroll down to "component loading error") and installed java via

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin...

How come then, that the guy who started this thread got his optimus card to work? Is the difference maybe that there is a second card involved whenever it is not working?

Don't have JavaScriptBlocker installed and deactivating AdBlock did not make a difference. Other than those I would not know what would block Java. Java is activated in FF, of course.
