After over a year I finally wanted to update Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.10 (and was even prepared to go through updateing to 11.04 first).

However, the update manager just offers me an upgrade to...

[SOLVED] Re: Login screen users unclickable

Maybe I'm thinking too simple here, but have you tried choosing your account by simply pressing enter (and if it's the wrong account using the cursor-keys)?

[ubuntu] Re: Anyway to reset Video Card Drivers to default?

Is this still valid for 10.10?

I think there were major changes with respect to Xorg and I'm afraid to break my productive machine by trying the solution.

edit: sry for the necromancy, btw

[ubuntu] Re: How to get Nvidia geforce 420M working?

How come then, that the guy who started this thread got his optimus card to work? Is the difference maybe that there is a second card involved whenever it is not working?
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Laptops with switchable graphics cards: nVidia or ATI?

Do you mean "avoid Optimus at all costs" or "avoid Optimus at all costs if it is part of a switchable graphics setup". According to this thread, it seems that optimus works, as long as there is no...

At least the guy in this thread seemed to be ok with the solution in the end.
  8. [ubuntu] Laptops with switchable graphics cards: nVidia or ATI?

    Hi all,

generally I hear that it is preferable to buy nVidia-laptops due to better drivers for the GPUs.

In particular, though, this does not seem to hold for laptops with switchable graphics...

[ubuntu] Re: Flash: YouTube works, The Daily Show doesn't.

Thanks, Stagger Lee, that resolved my issues. Though, it should probably have been

    sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf

    Also, if you use

    sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
  14. [SOLVED] Re: Since Lucid Upgrade: Certain Sites looking ugly. Flash problem?

The post here from Stagger Lee resolved my issues.

Still wondering why the issue came up after the upgrade in the first place, though, but hey, it works now. :D

Don't have JavaScriptBlocker installed and deactivating AdBlock did not make a difference. Other than those I would not know what would block Java. Java is activated in FF, of course.

  19. [all variants] Re: Exernal Hard Drive: strange mounting behavior

I tried a KDE live CD, to no avail. I also updated to Lucid Lynx now, which did not help either.
Could it be it is a hardware problem even though it works on the other OS?
